Introduction to tandem skydiving
The first experimental tandem freefall parachute descent was carried out in 1977 over Florida, USA. A further six years of extensive development and testing
by two major US parachute equipment manufacturers, resulted in a safe
and reliable method of enabling the complete beginner to experience
freefall parachuting in the same way as taking a trial flying lesson! Using the tandem parachuting method, thousands have discovered the exciting sport of skydiving, and many have completed further training courses to become qualified skydivers. Tandem Skydiving is the ideal way to experience the exhilaration of freefall. Following a short briefing session, and securely attached to your instructor, you board the aircraft for the flight to 10000 ft. Together you exit the aircraft for a breathtaking 30 second freefall. Your instructor deploys the parachute at 5000 ft and you would then have the opportunity to take control of the high performance gliding canopy for the 6 minute flight back to the airfield. Finally, your instructor takes over to ensure a safe landing. How much does all this cost? About your instructorGeoff Tucker has been skydiving since 1984 and has logged around 6000 jumps. He qualified as a British Parachute Association Approved Instructor in 1988, and joined the full-time staff of Ipswich Parachute Centre in 1991, where he gained his Tandem Instructor rating.
Ipswich Airport ceased operations in the winter of 1996, and Ipswich Parachute Centre, now renamed UK Parachuting, moved to a temporary home in Cambridgeshire. Operations continued there until 1998, when UK Parachuting established a permanent home in Norfolk. Geoff currently operates there as a freelance Tandem Instructor. |
